Ceremonial Tattooing

For millennia, tattooing was solely a sacred practise, used to mark rites of passage such as first bleed or battle. Long before sailor tattoos were applied with thick needles and harsh machinery, women made ink from ashes and breast milk and quietly poked the ink into skin, dot by dot with sharpened bones and stones, imbuing prayers into their drawings.

It is believed by many ancient cultures that tattoos are the only possessions we bring with us to the afterlife, that they leave a permanent mark not only on our skin but also our souls.

My tattoo ceremonies honour the ancient roots of tattooing, inspired by my years living in Cambodia & Japan where two of the oldest sacred tattoo lineages in the world, Sak Yant & Tebori, continue to thrive. It is my intention to honour you as you move through life’s threshold moments, with a reclamation of grounded ceremony & deep reverence for this ancient art and your story.

I am a fully qualified tattoo artist with 6 years experience (through my previous brand Awen Soul). I am certified in tattoo hygiene, and practise Trauma Informed Tattooing.

I now practise machine-free tattooing only, as it is a quieter, much less painful and meditative method which I believe brings deeper energy to the tattoo.

  • We begin the process with a 60 minute astrology reading online, during which we will explore your destined astrological energies, as well as where there is room for choice and reclamation. We will begin to tune in with the design of your tattoo, which will include astrological remediation- helping you to balance or enhance parts of your birth chart.

    On the day of your ceremony we will hold an astrological magick ritual, working with the energies of specific celestial bodies with your specific intentions.

    When you receive your astrological magick tattoo the work will be anchored into your being.

  • This is an ancient & mystical practise, that a powerful seeing woman helped me to remember to do.

    These drawings are a form of glossolalia, what is often known in modern terms as ‘language of light’. It is a channelled prayer for you, to support you to retrieve a part of your soul that was temporarily lost, perhaps from your childhood, or maybe from a very long time ago.

    In our 30 minute consultation call 2 weeks before your appointment date, you will share with me what you are currently moving through, to inform the intention of the design.

    Before your appointment I will tune into your energy field and channel the design for you. On the day of the appointment I will hold a bespoke ceremony for you that will support the anchoring of the energy of your talisman, and we will apply the tattoo.

    You receive the hand drawn paper talisman as well as your tattoo on the day.

  • This ceremony formed because of the many beautiful clients that have come to me over the years for tattoos, during their ancestral pilgrimage journeys to Ireland.

    It is a honour to hold this ceremony for you, to commemorate and anchor in the energies of your mystical trip to Ireland.

    We begin by exploring the meaning of the astrological cycles that have brought you here at this time. We then have a tea blessing ceremony, honouring your Irish ancestors with native medicinal plants such as hawthorn, mugwort and yarrow, depending on your needs.

    After that we apply your sacred tattoo, working with the power of ancient Irish symbols, setting your intention for how you will move forward.

    We end with a tattoo blessing and close the space, so that you can move forward, carrying these energies.

The practicalities

All ceremonies are held in my private studio cabin in the countryside, conveniently located approximately 1 hour from Cork City, and 2.5 hours from Dublin. Upon booking you will receive a document to help you prepare practically and energetically, and we will have the consultation call 2 weeks before your ceremony date in which we can anchor in details of your personal ceremony & tattoo design.

As I work in a deep and reverent manner with these ceremonies, availability is very limited, and operates on an application basis. I am not a normal ‘tattoo shop’, and although there is a lot of co-creation in these sessions, I require your trust that the perfect design will come through from spirit in our ceremony together. You are welcome to share placement and design ideas during our consultation call, but finalising the design happens together in person, and I prefer if any inspirational images that are shared during our preparation call are not of other artists tattoos, to protect the energy of your sacred tattoo.

A non-refundable 50% deposit is required for booking, deposit may be lost in the case of no-shows, but of course genuine emergencies are taken into consideration.

During the ceremony, you can choose to have music playing or be in silence, and it is recommended that you enter a meditative state during the tattoo application, as profound insight can be received during this portal. We will take breaks as needed, and I provide complimentary water, herbal teas, healthy snacks & aftercare products.
